Supporters of this year’s highly-successful Christmas Tree Festival in Sedgefield have helped swell the coffers of the Great North Air Ambulance service and enabled work to start on external roof repairs and internal decoration at St Edmund’s Church following raids on the building by lead- thieves.

This week, the Team Rector of the Upper Skerne, the Revd. Geoffrey Short, presented a cheque for £1790 to Air Ambulance fund-raiser Joanne Murphy and a cheque for the same amount to Church Reader Michael King who helped lead the Church roof repair appeal. Work on the building is expected to start in the early Spring.

The presentations were made at a social evening in the church for sponsors of the 47 displays which, said the Rector, had seen St Edmund’s ‘decorated in a marvellous way’ and was ‘a wonderful example of the community and the church working together in partnership”.

The Rector thanked all who supported the festival, the sponsors and organisers who had made it ‘such a great success’.
