Hpoliceistorically, the spring and summer months see an increase in reported ‘opportunist thefts’.

Opportunist thefts include thefts of pedal cycles, garden tools, garden furniture in fact anything left out unattended that criminals have seen an opportunity to steal.

These crimes can be avoided by taking some simple preventative measures – please do not become a Victim of Crime. I would ask that you are extra vigilant in trying to prevent opportunist theft and offer the following crime prevention advice:-

Never leave valuable property unattended
Never leave property unattended even if it is just for a few minutes. Always take items of value back in to your house.

Take care as to where you leave your pedal cycle
If attending local parks, shops or visiting a friend’s house always have your bike in view .Try to leave it with someone at all times. If you have to leave it unattended ensure it is locked securely.

Prevent opportunities
Never leave property outside during daytime hours and especially overnight. Don’t leave items of value in your rear yard or back garden. Mark items of value with things such as permanent marker, Smart Water, post code stamp etc.
