Durham County Council Press ReleaseSuccess blooms in County Durham village

A group of residents from a County Durham village are celebrating after their efforts to smarten up an area near their homes has been deemed ‘outstanding’.

People living in Elwick View, Trimdon Village, worked with Civic Pride officers at Durham County Council, Trimdon Community Garden, Livin’ and young people from the local youth club and schools to transform a barren patch of land at the top of their street.

Crocus bulbs and other cuttings and seeds were planted, gaps in boundary hedges were filled and litter has been removed from the area.

Their efforts were entered into the It’s Your Neighbourhood competition – part of Northumbria in Bloom – and last week were judged to be ‘outstanding’.

Elwick View resident Freda Fielding said: “I would like to thank everyone involved in the project – the residents, schools, the county council, Livin’, local councillors and not least our volunteers – for their help in achieving this high standard.”
