A baby born after a miscarriage or loss of a baby is referred to as a Rainbow baby. Today we remember all babies born sleeping, or we’ve carried but never met, those we’ve held but couldn’t take home, the ones that came home but didn’t stay. Unlike cancer, miscarriage, still birth and SIDS is still a taboo subject. Break the silence. This post is to remember all angels too perfect for earth and all the babies that are born sleeping or don’t make it home.

Trimdon Grange mother-of-four Tina (‘Tush’) Davidson is to take part in a challenging 5km obstacle run in a bid to raise £1600 for a special ‘cuddle cot’ to help grieving parents of babies who are ‘born sleeping’.

She is making the sponsored run with her Trimdon-born partner, Jon Defty, and three friends at Newcastle on June 16 in memory of their son, Drew, who died in hospital last August at 16 weeks gestation.

A cuddle cot is a cooling pad which can be placed in any type of baby bed to allow the families of babies who have passed away time to grieve before their infant is taken to the mortuary.
Tina (39), explained this week: “A cuddle cot allows parents to spend time with their babies and bond with them – to make precious memories in hospital after their baby has died”.
Several medical experts are on record as saying that the decision to delay the removal of a stillborn baby immediately after birth is ‘a positive step in the right direction’.

Tina, a Sunderland University graduate, former nursery nurse and manager at Bright Buttons Nursery in Fishburn, plans to donate the ‘cuddle cot’ for use by a local funeral service.

She has been fund-raising since Christmas through raffles and the sale of coloured glass-bead bracelets which she makes at home. The appeal fund already stands at just over £300.
