ARE YOU ORGANISING A TRAINING EVENT, SEMINAR, CONFERENCE, OR WORKSHOPS?

02p3sept06HERE at the EAST DURHAM PLAY AND COMMUNITY NETWORK we have the answer. Parents, and carers, etc can participate in the session whilst children are being cared for by our Mobile Crèche Provision. Here at the EAST DURHAM PLAY AND COMMUNITY NETWORK we can provide Sessional Day Care for children 0 to 5 years. ALL children will be welcomed into a happy, comfortable and fun 01p3sept06environment. Each child will have the opportunity to engage in physical, intellectual, emotional, and social development through planned activities and free play. To enable this, staff will bring with them a selection of toys, games and activities for children of all ages, including special needs. Crèche follows the birth to three-months framework. A RANGE of agreed policies and procedures are followed by the crèche as recommended by Ofsted 03p3sept06Registration and Inspection Unit. Staff are qualified and experienced with a commitment to providing quality childcare for all children and undergo all relevant Ofsted checks. PLEASE contact me if you need any further information (Margaret)on 01429 882 241 or check our website www.edpchn.com. “promoting quality childcare and creative play for all childen”

SKERNE PLAY PARK
Skerne parkWhat a fantastic six-week’s school holidays. The children, their parents and grandparents have certainly used the play park. The local residents have commented how nice it is to see families walk up to the play park and hear them enjoying themselves. Our aim was to get the children off the roads and into a safe and secure environment; together we have achieved that. It makes all the hard work worthwhile! Reflecting on information given at our Annual General Meeting, the play park has been an extremely positive project and the vast majority of the community are proud of the play park and community gardens. (Anyone interested in working on or adding to the gardens please feel free)

As the nights are drawing in, the gate will now be getting closed at dusk. We are currently working alongside Trimdon Parish Council trying to secure funds for a perimeter fence. If the funding application is successful the fence should be erected over the winter months. There has been a few concerns raised in which we would appreciate your co-operation which includes dog fouling, noise and litter. Thank you to all the children who use the litterbins. A gentle reminder to the older children, when entering or exiting the play park, please keep the noise to a minimum. Dog fouling and children do not mix. Please walk your dogs where children don’t play. Thanks once again for your much-valued support and co-operation.

“Join us!” - Sedgefield & District Citizens Advice Bureau urges would-be volunteers

04p3sept0605p3sept06SEDGEFIELD & District Citizens Advice Bureau launched a campaign to encourage more would-be volunteers to become part of the solution by joining the problem-solving charity at the heart of the local community. SEDGEFIELD & District CAB already relies on volunteers who work in a range of roles, the majority as trained advisers with others offering admin assistance and as trustees. NOW the Bureau is looking for new volunteers to train as advisers and admin workers. CAB staff come from all sorts of backgrounds. Qualifications aren’t necessary as full training including IT training, is given. Travel expenses are also paid. CITIZENS Advice is one of the UK’s largest voluntary organisations with nearly 21,000 volunteers from a wide variety of backgrounds. Students, working mothers, people with disabilities, the long-term unemployed and the retired all offer valuable skills and services in bureaux.ELAINE WILKINSON has been volunteering at Sedgefield & District CAB for eight years. She said: “Having left teaching for health reasons I wanted to help people and use the skills that I had learned in teaching. I can honestly say that I love the work and get a great sense of satisfaction each and every day. I would thoroughly recommend that anyone who has some spare time on their hands to come and see us as I feel sure that they will find it a rewarding experience’. CAB MANAGERS Karen Stewart and Pauline Chambers said: “Volunteers really are the backbone of every CAB. We couldn’t do without the people who give their time and energy to help out. If you think you may want to join us, we’d love to hear from you”. Karen and Pauline can be contacted on 01325 321 158
