Long Term Empty Property informationThe information is in relation to the empty homes grant and loan programme to assist empty home owners and owner occupiers considering purchasing empty homes to bring long term empty properties back into use. A long term empty property is a property which has been empty for a period of six months or more.

Types of assistance being made available include;

  • An interest free repayment loan of up to £15,000 to carry out renovation works to properties repayable over a period of up to ten years*
  • A £1000 incentive grant for landlords to furnish their property with white goods following renovation*
  • Advertising property through Durham County Councils Choice Based Lettings website
  • A £5000 move in grant is also available for any new owner occupiers that purchase a long term empty property to move into for a minimum period of three years*

The scheme is open to all long term empty properties which fall in the Band A/Band B Council Tax criteria.
