PCT Discussion
David Gallagher PCT attended the meeting to discuss issues relating to Primary Care Trust. He started off by saying that our PCT had the same boundaries as Durham Social Services. Durham and Darlington PCT were working together. Women in the North East of England had a life expectancy of 18 years below the national average and the main aim was to increase this. Biggest properties of this were due to alcohol misuse. PCT were aiming for more strategic planning in promotion and ill health prevention. They want service to be available more close to home. The PCT were also aiming to bring 6 areas into 1 with an expenditure of 1 billion pounds. And the priority was for patients to be able to have a choice and more services within community hospitals. A lot of discussion went on about our local GP and the services that they provided for the local people. How the appointment system was difficult. But there was good news that the local GP in Trimdon Village had changed their minds about reducing the surgeries available. There was much discussion regarding a new health Centre in the area. There was a lot of discussion about having a new health centre with a difference whereby different community groups could use the facility of the health centre to hold their meetings etc. This way would reduce costs of renting and everything would be in a more communal environment. Members asked when Trimdon Grange health centre was going to be removed as it was becoming a danger. David Gallagher asked if he could be sent minutes so that he could keep in touch with the Trimdons. Letter of thanks to be sent to David Gallagher and his staff thanking him for getting a result by persuading Dr Jones and Partners not to reduce surgery hours Action: Ginny to do
