Cllr. Lucy HovvelsThis is a general update on ASB incidences and actions to date around Trimdon Station area. Concerns have been raised by local residents about:

ASB around Station Rd
This area this has been monitored by DCC neighbourhood wardens since 20 December 2024. Neighbourhood Wardens carried out a litter pick of the area on 15 January and the neighbourhood wardens continue to monitor the area. Station Rd East and Station Rd West, some of the houses which once were privately owned have been sold at low prices and there is now a high percentage of private landlords

Housing Action Team Interventions
A property was reported to have open access and the Local Government (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1982 was used to board up without service of notice. Again over the Christmas period additional windows were open to access. Notice was served on the owner via their local agent and further a report was received stating that the property was open to access via the front door. The agent was contacted, and confirmed that the property had already been made secure following contact from police.
The DCC community action team recently carried out a project from 30th Sept -15 Dec in Trimdon Station.
The main concerns raised during this engagement period and themes from the walkabouts were empty boarded up properties, fly tipping, untidy areas of land, Ashley House, the field behind Station Rd East, rubbish in yards and bins left out in the back street.

Selective licencing / empty properties
It has been confirmed that the property named in the article published by the Northern Echo is in a Selective Licensing area and does hold a licence. The DCC team will be contacting the licence holder regarding their property, there are licence conditions around ASB and keeping the property exterior in good conditions
Your councillors are aware that there are also long term empty properities in Sycamore Crescent, May Crescent and Laburnum. A couple of these houses face the open green space which is owned by Home Group. The green open space looks untidy. Home Group were instructing contractors to clear it and have contacted residents for their views on future use of the land. Home Housing do own housing stock in Deaf Hill, so do Believe Housing .

We continue to work in partnership with others to tackle the problems and address areas of concern.
Please help, if you see it report it, you can contact any of your local councillors or Do it on line @durham.gov.uk. We can only combat the issues by working together
