A book about my father, Kenny Chaytor, his football career and fight with dementia. It is the story of local boy Kenny Chaytor’s football career with Oldham Athletic, but it also chronicles his dementia journey and the links between the two. He played in the 1950s before money took over the professional game and before anyone knew about the link between contact sports and neurodegenerative illness. Crucially, the book also talks about how he received support from the PFA through the recently formed Football Brain Heath Fund. Contrary to public perception, there is now support for stricken ex-players. The book is rich in anecdotes and tales and like life itself, is not without humour.
