Housing Provision throughout the Parish
The Borough Council turned down the application for 112 new dwellings in Trimdon Village by 23 votes to 4. I previously reported that two planning applications for new housing in Trimdon Grange had been submitted. The development beside the football pitches has been withdrawn however but the other proposal to redevelop the Rose Street area is proceeding.
Skerne Park PlayArea A bid for additional funding to fence the play area has been refused by the Borough Council on a technicality. An appeal against that decision has been submitted.
‘Trimdon Talks’ Project Phil Wilson from Trimdon Village is developing a history project entitled ‘Trimdon Talks’. The aim of the project is to encourage teenagers to engage with the environment in which they live by interviewing residents so that they can better understand the people and learn something about the history of the area. It is intended to film or audio record some of the interviews and place them on the ‘Trimdons’website. Phil is currently fund raising for the project and the Parish Council has agreed to consider making a contribution.
Financial Support The Council has made the following financial donations to – The Library to host an event in the NewYear for older residents The Friends of StWilliam’s School for its Christmas Fare – any money raised will be matched pound for pound by Barclays Bank. The Community College to support the attendance of 24 young people to see ‘Babes in the Wood’ at the Custom House, South Shields.
NewYouth Club The Parish Council is supporting an initiative by Trimdon 2000 to develop an old style youth club in the Trimdon Village Community College where young people can spend time without the pressure of having to attain some kind of educational output. The project is being developed in conjunction with Sedgefield Community School and will include the school’s ‘Freezone’ project which is a voluntary ‘schoolwork’ class. The ‘Freezone’ project already operates from Trimdon Grange Community Centre and has proved extremely popular.
