Parish Precept

For the third year in a row the Parish Council has agreed not to raise its precept but hopes it can continue to provide a first class service for its residents.

Election of Chair and Vice-Chair 2006/7
Councillor G Elliott of Trimdon Colliery has recently been elected Chair of the Council with John Burton from the Village elected as Vice-Chair.

Planning Applications – Housing and play areas
The Council has agreed to support a planning application for the building of 112 dwellings on land east of Swainby Road.
The Council has done this because it recognises the need for the village to expand in order to support local services such as the Church Road shops, the library and the village schools.
The schools particularly are suffering financially through falling roles and the Governing Bodies are forced into making difficult decisions regarding staffing levels etc.
The Council will press for the development to include low cost social housing that young couples in the Parish will be able to afford and not have to leave the area.
The Council has also supported the development of a new play area on the existing facility behind Skerne Avenue.
The play area will provide for the very young through to 10/11 year olds and construction of the play area is imminent.
The cost of the scheme is in the region of £150k and the efforts of local residents who have raised the money for the play area should be recognised as they have done a marvellous job in such a short time.
It proved difficult to find a site to serve the whole of Trimdon Village but it is hoped to provide a similar facility that will benefit the young children in the south of the village at some time in the near future.

A planning application has also been approved by the Borough Council for additional play facilities in Trimdon Colliery on land adjoining the Colliery Community Centre.
Councillor Lucy Hovvels is working hard with community volunteers to ensure this project is fully funded.

Summer Splash Play Scheme
The Parish Council has once again given financial support to the Borough Council so that the Play Scheme is available to local children.
The Parish Council has also agreed that where activities require a contribution from participants it will pay that charge as well, something it has not done in the past.
