After twelve months of hard work by the Joint Trimdon Regeneration Partnership and Groundwork East Durham, plans are being finalised to improve the entrances and exits to all of the Trimdon villages.
The improvements will include a unique stone gateway feature for every village. These will be supplemented with fence repairs, bulb planting and shrub and hedgerow works. The improvements will make the main routes in and out of the villages more appealing to residents, pedestrians and vehicle users.
A local sculptor has been working with the community to design features that reflect the vibrant history and bright future of each village. Co-operative Terrace (Trimdon Grange), Wingate Road (Trimdon Station), Horse Close Lane (Trimdon Colliery), West Lane (Trimdon Village) and Salters Lane (Trimdon Village) have been chosen as the locations for gateway features. Matching stone planters will be located on Luke Street whilst the twelve main routes will be tidied and planted with flowering bulbs and shrubs.
It is hoped that final designs will be presented at the next Joint Trimdon Partnership meeting. Plans will also be available at locations throughout the Trimdon's. If you want to know more you can contact Stephen Armstrong of Groundwork East Durham, on 0191 527 3333.
This project has been funded by Durham County Council's Urban and Rural Renaissance Programme and The European Regional Development Fund.
