Shop Burglary
SUE’S store in Redesdale Court, Trimdon Grange was burgled between the hours of 7:00pm Saturday 29th to 8:00am Sunday 30th Dec 2012. The rear shutter and double wooden doors were forced open and from inside a large number of bottles of alcohol spirits and cigarettes were stolen along with the days takings. Police are interested in speaking to anyone who heard or saw anything in this area during these times and this contact can be anonymous. Sue’s Store is an established family run business which has been serving the community for 18 years and is a valuable and much appreciated business for local residents.

Former PM’s agent awarded MBE
Former Prime Minister Tony Blair’s constituency agent John Burton has spoken of his delight at receiving an MBE in the New Year honours list. Mr Burton, 72, said he was particularly pleased the award recognised his work in the community as well as his services to politics. Although “retired from official work” Mr Burton, from Trimdon, continues to serve on a number of community organisations. Full story here.

Christmas Tree Damaged
Sometime between 9pm 17th and 5pm 18th December 2012 the Christmas tree situated on North Moor Avenue in Trimdon Colliery, planted by the local parish council, has been subject to criminal damage. Unknown persons have pulled off and broken the lights which were placed on the tree. The lights were powered by a sealed battery unit which has also been damaged. It is understood that on the same evening there has been incidents of eggs being thrown at local houses. If you have any information regarding these events please contact Durham Police on tel:101

School Damage
Between lunchtime Saturday 8th December 2012 and 08:00hrs Monday 10th December damage was caused to Trimdon Junior School in Elwick View, Trimdon Village. Unknown persons have caused approximately £200 of damage to a bike shelter by kicking the perspex panel and smashing it. Further damage has also been caused to a nearby reinforced window. Sedgefield Neighbourhood Police Team are appealing for anyone with any information in relation to this damage to contact them directly or by contacting Crime Stoppers.

Drugs Operation
On Friday 23rd November 2012 officers from Sedgefield Neighbourhood Police Team conducted an operation to target the misuse of drugs in Licensed Premises with the assistance of a Police Passive Drugs Dog. A number of premises were targeted in Sedgefield Village and the Trimdon area. A significant amount of drugs were recovered from the Fox and Hounds Public House in Front Street, Trimdon Village.
An 18 year old local male was arrested on suspicion of supplying controlled drugs and is currently on Police bail. Police will continue to target premises throughout the Christmas period and request that anyone with any information about drugs activity with Licensed premises to contact them.

Vehicle Crime
Overnight Sunday the 11th November a catalytic converter was stolen from a Suzuki Vitara parked on Sunnyside Terrace, Trimdon Grange. The part appears to have been taken for another vehicle as it has been professionally removed causing no other damage. Police are appealing to anyone who may have seen anything suspicious in the Sunnyside Terrace area on the night in question to contact them using 101.

Stolen Fuel Oct 2012
Between 1st-9th October approximately 500 litres of fuel was taken from DLI Seals at Trimdon Grange Industrial Estate. The fuel is estimated to worth approximately £3000 and was taken from a storage tank on the site which had the supply pipe cut and the lock forced. Police are appealing to anyone with information in relation to this incident or any other suspicious activity in Trimdon Grange Industrial Estate to contact them.

Vehicles Damaged Oct 2012
Overnight of the 1st October 2012 several vehicles were damaged parked on Lillie Terrace, Trimdon Grange. All were parked on the roadside outside their respective homes, an unknown person has used a coin/key or similar object to scratch the paintwork of the parked vehicles. Sedgefield Neighbourhood Police Team are asking anyone who has any information in relation to these crimes to contact them on 101 or your local Beat Officer.

Garage Burglary 7th Sept 2012
Within the last week there have been two further sheds/garages broken into in the Trimdons, the latest being in Berry Ave Trimdon Grange where 2 quad bikes ( Childs Red Suzuki LT50 Quad bike which has a black plastic foot rest, a sticker on the rear stating no passengers and has numerous grommets missing from the side, and Childs White PY80 Trials Bike which has no number board on front and various Monster drink sticker on it. As well as stickers that say RYAN and RF, further to this the bike has a handmade brake pedal on it) and a small off road bike were taken. The off road was found in bushes a short distance from the location of the crime. Can all householders who have a garage or shed, in particular with motorbikes or quad bikes stored in, them take extra steps to secure them. Also during the day do not leave any of this type of property on display, please keep all shed and garage doors closed, as the recent properties appeared to have been carefully selected and potentially “cased” during the day. Garage Burglary
Overnight of Monday the 27th August 2012 a garage was broken into at the rear of Northside Buildings Trimdon Grange. The door lock was forced and caravan and motorbike tyres were taken. Anyone with any information or anyone who has witnessed any suspicious behaviour in the Trimdon Grange area please contact Police.

Drugs Seized – Trimdon Grange
The Neighbourhood Team seized a quantity of Cannabis plants in Down Terrace, Trimdon Grange on Wednesday 25th July 2012. A local male has been arrested and is currently on bail pending further enquiries. All drugs and growing equipment seized will be destroyed. This action was only possible as a result of information being passed to Police from the local community.

Local Author’s Success. August 2012
What do you get when you put Stockton railway station, a trio of rail enthusiasts, the new Tornado railway engine; a fly, Rachmaninov, a botched telephone call and a pretty lady together? If you are local playwright Mark Robberts you have a recipe for an award winning comedy play. In a closely fought contest, local novelist and playwright Mark of Trimdon Village, with his play ‘Brief Encounters’, beat off competition from Canada, the USA, Australia, Europe and the UK to take runner-up spot in the recent and prestigious Sky Blue International One Act Playwriting competition held in Cambridge.
An international panel of figures from the world of stage, television, radio and art judged the plays and afterwards made the following comments: ‘The funniest play seen in a long time’; ‘Brilliant,’ and, ‘A comedy that holds the audience enthralled and works very well.’
Brief Encounters is based upon an actual event during the inaugural run of Tornado from Newcastle to Darlington. The awards were made by the noted actor Steven Mackintosh, currently playing the part of Ivan Lewis in the screen version of The Sweeney.

Birds Stolen
Overnight 12/07/2012 a shed burglary occurred at Roseberry Road Trimdon Village. The lock was forced from the shed and approximately 15 birds have been taken. Numerous other less valuable/popular birds have been left in their cages. It would appear that whoever is responsible has had knowledge of what birds to take and where they were stored.
Birds taken were: 6 black hooded red Siskins, 2 Parson Finches, 2 Bichenos finches and 5 Bengalese finches. The value of the birds taken is approximately £500.
All birds were red tagged with the initials JBO 12 and were individually numbered; a black bird cage was taken to transport the birds from the scene. Anyone with any information please contact the local Beat Officer.

Deaf Hill Banner Group 15th July 2012
would like to thank everybody who came with the banner to Durham Big Meeting on Saturday. Thanks also to Jim and Olwen Robinson, James Robinson, Paul and Christine Connor, Kevin and Susan Bostock, Christine Chaytor, Kevin Flint, Michael Evans, Peter Charlton, David on the poles. Stuart on the ropes and especially to the children who carried the community banner and refused to leave it and go on ahead to the shows when we were held up for over two hours. Magnificent effort! Thanks also to Larraine Grigg for opening the Welfare at daft o’clock in the morning, Trimdon Colliery and Deaf Hill WMC and the Community Centre for their support, Councillors Morris Nichols and Brian Wilson for their continued help and the people of Deaf Hill and Trimdon Station for your continuing support. Finally a massive thanks to the magnificent Knottingley Silver Band who came over one hundred miles to take the Deaf Hill Banner into Durham and did us proud. See you next year!

Deaf Hill Primary School June 2012
The school prepares to celebrate its centenary on the 22nd June. Your memories and comments are welcome on the school website. Past and present pupils and their families are welcome to join in the celebrations on Saturday 23rd June between 10am – 2pm. Entry is free.

Burglary Arrest March 2012
A local male has been arrested in relation to a recent burglary at the Spice Tree Public House, where copper piping and a boiler was removed. This arrest and investigation has only progressed as a result of information coming to Police from members of the local community. Anyone with any further information please contact Police on 101 or the Neighbourhood Police Team.

Burglary
On 20th March 2012 a burglary occurred in Trimdon Staton where a window to a property was removed to gain access, and items stolen included an iPad with black cover, iPod Touch with yellow cover, iPod Nano with Adam and Stephen engraved on the back, Asus netbook, Acer laptop and a Nikon camera. If anyone has any information please contact Police on 101.

Pit Disaster
The 130th anniversary of the Trimdon Grange pit explosion is marked with a memorial service at Trimdon Village cemetery.

Road Accident
TRIBUTES have been paid to a 21-year-old driver who was killed after the car he was driving left the road and hit a tree. News article from The Journal.

Attempted Theft 11th March 2012
On Saturday the 10th of March at about 11.30pm a male was disturbed attempting to take a Vauxhall Astra off the driveway of a property on Front Street Trimdon Village. The male had taken the keys for the vehicle via an insecure front door to the property.
