This short history of Wingate and Station Town was compiled for the Durham Counties Federation of Women’s Institutes Village Histories Competition, 1959-60.

While not professing to be a historian, I found great pleasure in compiling this small book, and to the best of my knowledge the facts are correct.

Mrs. R Charlton provided the Station Town records, and I am grateful to all who contributed in any way.
