CHURCH NEWS for November 2008
DCC Update Our thoughts are turning now to focus on fundraising for our new project – the installation of a toilet and an extension to the vestry. The Diocesan Advisory Committee have recently given their stamp of approval to plans to provide much needed facilities at St Mary Magdalene Church. Providing that we receive faculty and local authority permission then an accessible toilet will be installed in a modified boiler house. If we can raise sufficient funds then we will also extend the vestry to provide additional storage space and room to accommodate small meetings. We are hoping that tenders for the work will be out before Christmas so that we know exactly what the cost will be and, with luck, the project will be finished by Easter. Taking into account grants, donations, an amount from savings and small scale fundraising, we have already achieved a total of £34,200. Fundraising is going to be vital and this is what’s going on and planned at the moment:-
‘easyfundraising’ Anyone who searches or shops online can get involved in this one. Over 600 famous name businesses, including Amazon, ebay, M&S, Argos, Direct Line, travel companies etc, will make a small percentage donation of the cost of purchases to a registered charity. Any referrals of other charities or organisations through our registration will earn St Mary Magdalene’s a further whopping 20% of their donations for life! Use our web address to search online and we earn 0.5p for each completed search. Money for nothing? Absolutely! Since joining the scheme in September our church has earned £7.01 up to the beginning of November – small scale, but building!
