Comment: The foundry fish shop – has anyone noticed how terrible the food is coming out of this fish shop? I went today from opening expecting a nice fresh batch of chips. When I looked in the bag at the abomination I was served up I couldn’t believe my eyes. I will never go to that shop again, this is not the first time I have been served up Andries bag of overlooked scrat ends! I have the pictures to prove it!

Comment: George and Anne, thank you so very much for your reply on Cook’s Terrace. I don’t need a map as I know exactly where you mean but thank you for your kindness. There isn’t an apostrophe in Cook’s on my birth certificate so that was nice to learn to pass on to my family. Now my past history is complete. I wish you both health and happiness always.

Comment: On a 1914 map of Trimdon Grange Cook’s Terrace is shown as a short terrace at the back of the Front Street about where the T junction is now . If you have an email address I will send you a copy of the map .

Comment: Can anyone please tell me where Cooks Terrace used to be in Trimdon Grange? I have been told it was informally known as Front Street by the people in the plantation so I thought the best place to ask would be Trimdon residents. I was born in Cooks Terrace, remember the ‘planton’ and brought up in the village. Oh now I’m homesick!

Comment: Although the new play area in the village is great, and congratulations to all who made it possible, there is a serious lack of litter bins. On a weekend when there are no council litter pickers, the mess is ridiculous in this area. I’m sure I am not the only dog walker who has had to change their route because of all of the broken glass.

Comment: RE: Why Trimdon band don’t take Deaf Hill into Durham miners gala?
They say its because they have been going in with Seaham for several years and have a comitment to them , we had a meeting with the band committee in 2010 where it was agreed that they would lead our banner into Durham and give plenty of notice to Seaham so they could find another band, it never happened, we found out 6 weeks before the gala via the Trimdon concert brass web site that they were taking Seaham in and left us without a band, since then we have had to aquire bands from elswhere, loyalty to some people means nothing.
To Mr Mills, yes, Jake Elliott did lead the band into Durham but with Seaham banner not Deaf Hill.

Comment: I moved to Derbyshire Dec. 1962 as a transferred miner from Deaf Hill Colliery. I spent many happy years working at the pit and went to Durham Miners for many years, the most tearful year was after the Easington disaster when many men lost their lives and was proud to be on parade that day with Deaf Hill banner. Hope you all have a good day on Saturday parading through Durham City. Hope my old mate Jake Elliott is leading the parade. Have a fun day. George Mills

Comment: The police want to be stopping all the underage drinking in Trimdon Colliery because they’re getting drunk then going round harrasing people, there are three in particular who should be named and shamed, something needs doing about this

Comment: reply to Dennis Fish; the Colliery Inn had a former landlord by the name of Steve Storey not sure if he was the last. It was eventually bought by John and Christine Errington. Christine was formerly Christine Defty, had a brother called Tom and parents Tommy and Mona. It continues to be a private house

Comment: The Colliery Inn at Trimdon Grange was mentioned in the national archives and the 1891 street Stockton registration district. The inn was situated in Front Street in the Grange.
There doesn’t seem to be any photos or info available about it at all. Also whilst searching the archives for Trimdon came across Peacocks houses, streets never heard of at 1891 either.
Can anyone remember the boys school in Windsor Street in Trimdon Colliery, what it was called I remember it from 1950s, then it was demolished thanks.

Comment: I agree with Alan , with one proviso bring back real ale at realistic prices . No one wants to pay the price these corporate breweries charge for the tasteless wash they call beer.
Governments love the demise of the local pub because now people cannot gather to exchange ideas and organise against those that own us.

Comment: On reading back over the guestbook, a lady called Elaine, has been saying about the Dovecote Inn at Trimdon Grange, saying that Margaret Birkett and her descendants all lived there till the 1920s, Google even picked it up too, can I just say I am doing my family history and the other day received the death certificate of my late great grandmother Mary Ann Elliott, nee Robinson of the Black Bull pub at Trimdon Village, Jacob died the year before in 1920, but son William had the pub then, Mary Ann died suddenly with her son Joseph Elliott who was living at the Dovecot pub in August 1921, he gave his address on his mothers death certificate, so whether Joseph was landlord then or living there remains to be seen, but Mary Ann died August 5th, at the Dovecot pub at the Grange. It’s surprising what information turns up on certificates.
All certificates I have got so far show my late family liked living at Trimdon back to the 1600s, a lot married Trimdon lads and were farmers and publicans in the area.

Comment: “THE GREEN PUB” can anyone help? I run a disco company and a few weeks ago a lad called Craig booked me to provide entertainment at the pub for the evening. It is at a pub called THE GREEN but when I have rang the pub over the past two days, the line is constantly engaged 24/7. Does anyone know if the pub is still open please? If so, I will travel and look for it this week as the disco is this Saturday night (17/03/2012 )
Text me on 07810 123074 if you can or email. I will look for replies tonight and tomorrow. I dont want to assume the pub is closed of course and work elsewhere as the function may still go ahead and it would be a disaster for the family and friends involved.

If you have never done Zumba before but fancy coming along to have a look at what everyone else is doing, come along and have a go. You do not need to know how to dance, just join in and follow my lead. The only person who ever goes wrong is me!
£3 a session, ditch the workout and join the party!

Comment: Anon because I don’t want this to turn into a personal mud slinging match. Question, why should the council clean up after some lazy disrrespectful dog owner!
When I say take some pride in the village, I mean personal pride in yourself as a honest thoughtful person who thinks of the rest of the village and not just their own selfish desires.
As for pulling the trigger I belive there are some fine upstanding young people in the boxing club that could smarten some of these foolish youths up.

Comment: Dear anon any boy can load a gun but it takes a man to pull the trigger, stop hiding behind anon and put your name up and the kids are no different now than what it was like 20 years ago we used to go out with a fiver drink mad dog 20/20 bag of chips and give the local copper a good hiding on the way home that was that we had no trouble off em. As far as I can see the kids are doing no harm they may respect you more if you face them instead of hiding behind a computer and putting anon to your name. Spineless just like trimdon village parish council who are sweeping the dog doings on the village greens instead of picking it up. Now stop your crys for help and get out there and do something about it instead of back stabbing chit chat natter natter rant over and out roger dogger

Comment: Last year a guy in the village was growing pot, doing no harm to anyone and the police and special forces was all over him like a fat kid on a smarty. Now you have a bunch of drunken idiots terrorising the place and it\’s a case of “we will take care of that” sometime after the 12th of never .

Comment: Instead of complaining or expecting someone else to take care of the problem. Get a bunch of men or women who enjoy a rumble and sort the buggers out . You have a boxing club and a martial arts club  !
But it won’t happen, the villages are too lethargic to put on a decent garden show or to reply to questions on local history. Have some pride in were you live, go kick some backside .

Comment: Is it just me who is sick of the crime and drinking at the park on a weekend? Police have been called several times yet nothing is being done, locals who have tried to take matters into their own have been chased from their houses by the kids. I think someone needs to be done asap, I have to put up with this every weekend and get abuse shouted at disabled family members, I hear rumours of a curfew but don’t see any action taken, I bet tonight the park will be full of drunk teens again

As regards John Merifield, he’s my cousin and he has lived in Shildon for a lot of years now. By the way, one bit of memory about TT was the fact that he worked for Freddie Lee on the fruit and veg van. In fact he used to drink with John Merifield and me in the Welsh Harp.

Comment: I have just found this part of Trimdon Times and I think it is absolutely brilliant. I’ve seen a lot of names that I recognise from the time I lived in Trimdon. One name that I noticed was Terry Tivenan, who was a good friend of ours, and I would be interested in finding out where he is now. I did hear that he had moved to Merseyside, does anyone know if this is true? as we would love to contact him.
