A very special thanks to my lovely family for letting us stay and watering and feeding us for the whole weekend. Great to see Ray Carter, The Doc and TV star, Steve Batey looking so well!! We could walk round Leeds for days without anyone speaking or knowing us yet we can go anywhere at Trimdon, The Club, Futty Match, Paper Shop, Betting Shop and loads of people say hello, something very special about the place and we hope everyone realizes what a great community spirit they live within. Kath not a Trimdon girl but still loves it up there as much as me (she says Hi to her dance partner on Saturday, Ang). Thanks again and hope to see you all soon

Hope you both feeling better this morning after your extra hour in bed yesterday (lol).  Thanks for the plug for the CDs.  Abandon’s first album ‘One Size Fits All’ is doing really well, and like you say £6 (inc.p+p) is a bargain for proper live music.  We also have t-shirts for sale as well at £12.  That’s my next task, to get you and Kat into one for our next gig!  Thanks again for your support.  Have a good week and see you both soon.
Rock on,  Kay – Abandon xx

Comment: Hi, I really enjoy keeping in touch on this site and of course the Northern Echo on line.
Left Trimdon Village in 1956 and have now lived in Denmark for over 50 years. I went to Trimdon Village Parochial School (alas no more) and lived in Front Street.
My maiden name was Beryl Sloan and I know there are still a few of my school friend who remember me. I was hoping that there perhaps some were on Facebook so I’m trying to get in touch this way.
Keep up the good work. Best wishes from BerylI I

Comment: fantastic site, it was great to see some of the old pics of Trimdon Village, brought back some lovely memories. One of the paper cuttings (1963) commenting on the old run down farm opposite the church where I remember I got a cuff around the lugs from PC Connelly ‘s long leather gloves for playing in there. Looking back now I know it was dangerous –  I was only about 5 or 6 years old then

Comment: Hi. to every one who knew me when I lived in the community spanning the Council houses’, Deaf Hill and  The Colliery from the beginning of the 2nd world war to December 1962 before moving to Belper in Derbyshire to further my career in the mining industry in the Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire coalfields.
I visit the Trimdon Website most days and was very proud to see the Trimdon Brass band parading on Wednesday prior to the miners gala and then at the 125 anniversary in Durham on the Saturday led by an old friend of mine, Jake Elliott ex Drum Major 2nd battalion Scotts Guards.
It would be nice to have a reunion at the community centre or the Colliery Club for men who worked at Deaf Hill Colliery from the end of the 2nd world war until the closure in 1967 ish. My dad was well known for his commitment and involvement on the parish council in the community and as a  N.U.M. official at the pit for many years.
Congratulations to every one who was involved in the community for organising  the special event.

There were a number of children present, including two of my own. Surely if you choose to own a dog then cleaning up after your pet should not be a chore.

Comment: Having just found this site and reading thru the back messages I came across ‘CAROL from SUNDERLAND’ who wrote in 2005 about a relative marrying Lucy Reed, Squire Reed’s daughter. If Carol reads this could she contact me? I would like to know more about Lucy and I’m also trying to uncover Squire’s whereabout prior to 1892 when he married Margaret Renwick.
I know he was from Leeds originally but he seems to have eluded every census and birth record with the exception of 1901 when he was in Trimdon where he died in 1914 as the result of a mining accident, or not as the mine owners would have it while denying compensation to his wife and five children.
I’ll be glad to hear from anyone else who can shed light on Squire and the Owens’ family of Cross Row-Thomas and his wife Ellen(nee Taylor). He was originally from Dysarth in N.Wales and had worked previously  at Murton where his brother, Owen Owens, was killed. My grandmother, Lydia, was his daughter and married Squire’s son George.
This is a fascinating archive that has been created for Trimdon – it should be treasured.

Comment: Yes I totally agree with the person with no name, this is a good platform for parish council to comment on each and every meeting, what is all the hush hush, the people have a god given right to know what is going on in their villages and to know their local parish councillors, after all without the good folk of the villages there would not be parish councillors, so if other council can do it how about Trimdon parish council?

Comment: I can only assume that the previous message was aimed at my entry, thanking Trimdon Foundry Parish Council for making the minutes of their meetings open and accessible.  I fail to see how my comments were in anyway insinuating???
I was merely suggesting that Trimdon Parish Council follow suit. I have chosen to post a message on here because I don’t know how to get in touch with my parish council or even who the councillors are. I think this website is an ideal place to keep people informed.
My suggestion was aimed at improving communication and certainly not to suggest something underhand was going on!!!!
I fail to see why my choice to remain anonymous should make my point any less valid.

Just wondered how this would go down with the general folk of Trimdon. I know it had its problems before but we are older and wiser now and to be honest more sensible so it shouldnt be a problem. Hopefully the regulars from the origional legion will be in attendance i.e. Steven Acidonia, hopefully he will don his shades and puffer jacket, and my mate Steven Hall. lets av it!! rave on!! I’ve got a couple of mc’s on, techno t ( hes just done me a tattoo) and dj emmy is lined up to rock it big time. Please get back to me thanks and peace to you all.

Comment: Further to the comments on the land to the rear of 20 Commercial Street.
I return to the Colliery regularly and observe the changes made over the years. I’m not a fan of all that has been done but what has been apparent is the works are carried out in a workmanlike fashion and with due consideration for the local residents and the requirements of the local authority.
It is a shame to see the way in which this project has been tackled from a practicle point of view, I pressume the people developing this are amateur if not in fact, certainly in their approach. By even the lowest of standards this should have been levelled and hoarded.
I note the comment “the land was purchased as a building plot” surely it’s not a building plot until planning permission has been awarded, it may well be refused or are there any friends in high places?
As to whether or not the land is better now than in it’s original state is subjective, depending on how much of it you can see from your bedroom or lounge window.
Come on developers tidy and hoard it you never know the locals may not oppose any planning applications, you may also give the planners some confidence in your ability and intentions because at the moment both look doubtful.

Comment: I’m currently trying to get a Reading Club set up in Trimdon Grange for myself and likeminded people. The club would cater for all levels of reading and would involve members talking about books they have read and to share their experiences. I know this is a bit of a long shot but I’m currently thinking of how to try and raise funds for this club to be set up. My football predictors are doing really well at the moment but I’m now thinking they are a little boring so I’m looking for something new. If anyone has any ideas could you please drop me a line via e mail. Please dont contact me at home as the bairns will be asleep and our lass kicks off. Thank you
