Comment: Hi, just a quick message about what a GREAT facility you all have in Trimdon in the “Trimdon Station Community Centre”, (THE WELFARE). I was given a look round by my sister Eileen and also Jim on Sunday, what a massive amount of work and effort has been put into this project and I must say you Trimdon people should be proud of having this great place on your doorsteps. If any Trimdon people have not seen the improvements made I reccomend you go and have a look for yourselves, am sure you will be impressed with it.
Well done to all concerned!!!!!!!!!!!!

Comment: Hi, Many thanks for taking the time to let us know that you enjoyed the firework display.  We do our best to make sure that posters etc are out in good time for everyone to see and come along and also try to advertise with local media, but as they say “will try harder”!
Next year’s event has already been agreed and will take place on Sunday 1st November, Recreation Area, rear of Nattress Terrace, perhaps at the earlier time of 6pm rather than 6.30.

Comment: I would like to say that I fully appreciate the firework display that the Parish Council organised this year. I really enjoyed it….even though I had to watch it from the window, as we weren’t aware it was being held.
I know now that there had been notices put up in the Parish Council notices boards, however is this really enough? What about the local shops, schools etc. I know my family weren’t the only ones to miss out. I look forward to being there next year and hope to see it advertised more clearly, I’m sure lots more people will attend.

Comment: Just to answer Linda Wilkinson about the land at the rear of 20 Commercial St.. the land was purchased as a building plot and it was cleared of all the rubbish and buildings that very same week. Waiting for planning permission and other red tape takes time as you just cannot build without everything being passed, so we must apologise for any inconvenience, but actually I think that the land is much tidier than it was before. If you wish to contact myself or my husband, please feel free to contact us on 01429 881809. Thank you.

I can assure you that the house was in excellent condition and the only repairs that had to be rectified were done deliberately by herself in order to get a cheaper council property. Thank you

Comment: On the subject of the Parish Council, I’d just like to point one more example of the good work that’s being carried out, the fireworks display last year at the recreation ground was great, free and well attended.I believe the event is to happen again this year.  This type of event takes a lot of preparation and a lot of money, so well done to the Clerk and Members for giving something back to the people.  I think the Parish Council does a fair amount for the village, given that their budget can’t be huge, there’s only so much that can be done. Improvements take a long time to come to fruition and there is often a great deal of work going on in the background before people actually see results. Trimdon has it’s problems, much the same as any other village in our area and yes, it would be really nice to see the area as well kept as the likes of Sedgefield, however, the appearance of areas is largely down to residents taking pride in their area and helping the likes of the Parish Councils keeping places looking nice.  It would be so easy, and improvements would soon be seen, if everyone in Trimdon did their bit by taking pride in their own little area, even if it did mean picking up a leftover beer can in the street! Or better still, not dropping it in the first place. Well done to the Parish Council and thanks for the very beautiful children’s park!

Comment: At last !! I think a lot of people will be happy  and relieved that finally something has been done to clear up and continually keep on top of the upkeep in the cemetery, and the village . And I also think that the negativity in the guestbook regarding this matter comes from years of Deaf Hill and Trimdon Station being in the gutter and you can’t blame people really for feeling negative about the state of the place over the years .Maybe  Easington and the Parish Councils will get a bit of support from Trimdon people now that something is going to be done ..And maybe time for some of the younger generation to join Easington and the parish councils … After all there should be no reason why Deaf Hill and Trimdon Station can’t be on the same par as such as Sedgefield and Trimdon Village for a nice well kept village …

Comment: I was very disappointed reading the guestbook this morning about how negative everyone is being.
The cemetery has had its first “session” of intense maintenance last week and I visited with the Chairman Jim Grigg, to see how the work was going – a definite improvement. This will continue with one day per week being devoted to work in the cemetery and I hope that parishioners will be pleased with change in the overall appearance of the cemetery.
The Parish Council does it’s best to try to maintain and address all areas within it’s control to everyone’s satisfaction. Maybe this is a high goal to strive for but we do try.
Anyone wishing to complain may do so in writing to me as the Clerk at 2 Delamere Gardens, Easington SR8 3PA.  The complaint will then be brought to the attention of Members at our monthly meeting and considered fully and a fully reply made thereafter.  Also our monthly meetings, the next one is tomorrow (Wednesday 10th September at 6.30pm) are open to the public and the Chairman gives ample opportunity for members of the public to “have their say”.   You are welcome to come along.

And as for letting the whole of Trimdon see, the whole of Trimdon could see when you were campaigning to save the church, did you actually bother to attend regular services hence supporting the up keep of the church? One believes that answer is NO!!!!

Comment: Referring to George Martin ! If you read my message properly I was in fact saying that the state of the cemetery is upsetting . Further down the message book various people have commented on this and this website is free for people and people that lived in Trimdon to voice their opinions , I thought I’d take part .. (even if my opinion will be ‘all over Trimdon Station’) And if you looked further down the guestbook I have left my email address previously .. I was actually , if you took time to read properly, agreeing with other people who find the state of the cemetery that it is very upsetting , but Easington or parish councils maybe should give this matter first priority before the bowling green , a notice board and street furniture . And as for who will remember me when I’m gone !! I really don’t think that has anything to do with community funds being used to shine up the outside of the village – it’s such as the cemetery , that need preference … is all I was saying …. You obviously use the bowling green .. thanks for your view x

Your comments will be all over Trimdon Station, you say lets give the bowling green preference to our cemetery, who will remember you when you are gone, not the relatives that have families in our cemetery, nor anyone else in our village that are concerned about their families that are put to rest in the cemetery. Why do you not include your email address??

Comment: Hi Bill, I don’t know you . but I lived in Trimdon all my life , up until about 13 yrs ago. I can believe the cemetery is in a state as EASINGTON COUNCIL and ‘all who sail in her’ have deep deep pockets. There are the funds there to cover the upkeep of the cemetery and such like .. But don’t worry the funds are going to ‘street furniture’ which will no doubt be vandalised of a Friday night , a notice board ???? and planters .. which will be uprooted and replanted in peoples gardens. I feel sad for the state of the cemetery, but as long as the bowling green is sound… why should anyone bother with the state of a graveyard ??….. and other parts of the village. Yes they will mention a hang around area  ?, and basketball hoop ? …. but recreational areas should be accounted for separately, being as all the new-build houses have by law to donate towards play areas and such like for the kid. What is this ??  . , Dead , Buried and Forgotten , as with the cemetery… why do people expect any different from Easington Council .. money grabbers .. Don’t leave the grass to grow over council tax bills do they ??

Comment: Nothing has been done,  the cemetery is still sadly a disgrace. I was a bit upset about this subject when leaving my last message in the guestbook ( as you may have noticed )  However after taking stock,  I intend to find out if there is a process to complain about  poor service/Management from a council. I have been to photograph the sad state of affairs, last Sunday morning
I think the people I need to contact are  ombudsmen? – not too sure. I will have to look into this.
I would appreciate  being informed of the official complaints procedure. please find my e mail address attached

Yes, Marion I am Pearls brother, I am afraid she lost a long  brave battle against cancer. She lived in the USA, I  shared as much time as i could with her during her last year. As you can imagine it was a tough time.
Pearls last wish was to be flown from California and be laid to rest next to her Mam & Dad in Deaf Hill Cemetery.
Many moons ago I can remember going to your house with our Pearl, I remember I sat at a table next to a fire at a back window overlooking a  back garden it was one night after school  & that’s about it.!!!!
I really do remember your name very well. …

Comment: In answer yes there have been many improvements to the recreation area in the past few years.  There is a youths area with a basketball hoop and “hang around area” and there is also a fenced area which holds a toddlers play area and recreation units for use by bowlers, cricketers and footballers.
You are correct the Parish Council can apply for funding under what is classed as Section 106 for environmental improvements following a development of new housing.  A scheme has been approved for street lighting to the recreation area, and a series of street furniture i.e. a new notice board, planters etc to brighten the village up.

Comment: I don’t live in Trimdon now but remember as a kid, there were no play areas but the rec ??? it was a dump then , improved a bit before i left around 13 yrs ago .
I’ve since noticed lots of new houses built , when the building contractors are putting their plans for new builds before the council , they are supposed to make a payment to the council towards recreation for for the community , I only know this as this has recently taken place in Fishburn and there has been lots of  money gone into renovating play areas here , has that taken place in Trimdon , do the kids have somewhere nice and safe to play now or has this gone unnoticed ???

The Parish Council take it’s responsibilities for the village and areas it maintains very seriously and appreciate feedback – positive or otherwise on it’s actions.  We hope to have a marked improvement in the cemetery shortly.
There are many other issues raised by you in your post which I shall respond to on an individual basis if you can forward your address.

Residents and those people ,including myself, can rest assured that this problem will be solved before the end of the year.

Comment: LETTING OF STEAM,  AN EMOTIVE SUBJECT
I know a  lot of other people who will not read this will share my concern about how the maintenance of the cemetery at Deaf Hill is managed. I have my Sister, Parents ,Grandparents Aunts & Uncles and neighbours iI grew up with at rest in the cemetery. When i have visited  I am deeply saddened at the condition of the grass & weeds. It seems to be, that the care taken to look after it ,is constantly allowed to drift into an awful state, until someone complains ( usually Me) and then it receives “a tidy up”- surely this is not how it should work !
Trimdon Parish council ….. Do you have  slanted shoulders ? (That’s a bit steep? (joke ) I do hope that  you don’t think I am having a go at you,…. Simply because I haven’t started yet !!!!)
Flower beds,  + some TLC for heavens sake, It’s  obvious it receives the minimal reqd effort for the money received, come on people we are not asking for a lot.. This issue upsets a lot of older people who I talk to, who do not use I.T. ……
Is there anyone who shares my concerns ?
What are the arrangements for erecting old headstones that have fallen over ? ( none it seems)
Weedkiller ? This must be more expensive than Petrol?
Ok in hindsight etc etc  But In my opinion- whoever decided to get rid of the Gravedigger and sell the house this was very shortsighted indeed. …£££  no never ! I wouldn’t dare suggest it..

As always within Trimdon/Deaf Hill I  blame a lot on  expenditure, This mainly due to the village receiving limited cash on both sides  simply because that half the village is Sedgefield Council and the other Easington Council. Where else does this happen?  This boundary needs sorting, not a person on the planet will convince me otherwise.
I did join and go to the Labour Party  and attended meetings but I found it so closed shop that it was frightening, just gave up in the end.
Can’t  complain about Lucy Hovells though,  I know she works hard does a good job.
Yes I may be turning into a Grumpy old man but I am still sound as a pound and love you all to bits. I was just like a good wine, and took a bit of time to mature… ha ha.
P.S. Noel Whatley, Still remember you mate,  & your Mam & Dad They lived next door to our Fred & Maureen Bruce, Can’t remember what I had for breakfast but remember the good old days…

Comment: Hello fellow Trimdonians, just wishing u all a happy new year. I know I’m a little late but I’ve been busy trying to win this lass over (she is from Trimdon as well). My good and dear friend, I wont mention his name but u know who u are, has also been trying to get the same girl. He has succeeded where I have been limited to just a peck on the cheek and a teasing smile. I’m still mates with him, unlike that B**** A******* who beat me up last Sunday.  Hope to see you all soon xxx

Comment: It may have been you Barbara. I’ve had a look but unfortunately it’s not too clear. (Have placed a posting on the Forum page, ‘Remember When’, but although there has been 55 views there has been no reply.) Yours is the first on this site with regard to Trimdon Happy Wanderers and I would have thought that more would have remembered and replied.  It’s a pity that a ‘Trimdon Happy Wanderers ‘reunion couldn’t be organized, as it would be great to see everyone again.
Are you the one that posted on Jan 13th, asking if anyone could remember the Madrell family? If you are then I do, you and your Veronica. I was your friend back then, so many years ago!

Comment: There were two large planes crashed during WW2  in a field  along the west road. From memory there was a US Flying Fortress on which the twelve crew members were killed and a Lancaster bomber where I recall there were eight survivors. They were trying to land at an airfield which  is listed as Catley Hill was marked on WW1 maps as an emergency landing field, however the electricity board had built a high voltage transmission line across this land. The US plane sliced through this line and also demolished part of the Kirkpatrick’s farmhouse, my recollection was that the crew were electrocuted. The Lancaster landed further west, just south of the first vee..
There was also another smaller plane ( I think it was a Mosquito) that caught fire over Trimdon Village,  I was in the garden and saw the crew of two bail out,  the unmanned plane dived over the  Cleveland Ave. and at the last minute glided away and crashed in the old quarries about 200 yards away. The crew were picked up by the railway line by the limestone quarry.
I saw these crashes but remember that in total there were about 8 planes made some form of landing on this field including two French.

Comment: I don’t know of the Whatley family, in Trimdon, I was living with parents in Laburnum Square last brick house next door to steel houses from 1963 to dad leaving in 1990. I was cleaning windows outside when I saw the Vulcan bomber fly over Trimdon on fire, something never to forget in a hurry, thought it landed in the woodland beyond saw then aircraft flying about all day, a friend of my parents their daughter married one of the crew who came to do the clear up operation in 1971. Does anyone know of the aircraft what landed or crashed at the top of Trimdon Village during the war years, dad was on the home guard up there before going to the regular army, and they talked of the plane when I was younger, even mentioned in a book wrote by a Trimdon man, cant find who was the author.

Comment: Thank you Bill. Your generosity is  greatly appreciated. My Grandmothers parents were William Henry Thornton and Elizabeth (Peat). My Dad told me William was presented with a medal from the Queen for football accomplishments. I’m not sure what his team achieved but I
would like to find out. He was born May 18th 1877. His son was Robert Thornton, died at age 6 and buried in the Trimdon cemetery. Robert slipped out in the cold to watch his father play football and caught pneumonia.
Elizabeth was the daughter of Robert Peat and Mary Richardson. Robert Peat was the son of William Peat and Elizabeth Thubron. The family moved to the US in 1912. My dad has a collection of death certificates and other family records.
Hopefully someday I will get a chance to visit Trimdon and learn more about my families heritage

Comment: Dave (Florida),,,,, I was born 1959 and can remember the Thornton family. A very well respected hard working family who we were connected to through marriage on my Mothers side. As I remember as a child it was a common name in the village and knew several, from this website you will get a flavour of the village and what is all about, If you would like to look into your gran’s history I am pretty sure I could help to point you in the right direction. Drop me an e mail if you would like. What else do you know about her,  i.e. Brothers/Sisters or where she lived, dates and where she moved to. It’s only a small village and shouldn’t be very hard to trace.
Regards Bill

Comment Hi, My name is Dave. I just came across my grandmother’s funeral announcement from 1998. Her name was Mary Jane Thornton. She was born Nov. 22,1906 – place of birth was listed as Trimdon Grange in County Durham. I did a Google search for Trimdon and ended up here in your guestbook. Everyone seems so polite, much like my grandmother was.
She was a real LADY.
March 13, 1998 my grandmother appeared as an angel in my dream to tell me she loved me. The next morning my Dad called to tell me she had passed away that night. She will always be loved. So thank you Trimdon for one of your greatest exports.
