Comment: I left the message on here regarding the Help for Heroes charity night at Trimdon Labour Club on 18th June. Yes PW England were playing that night but the people in the "entertainment committee" did not have the manners to call the group who were performing that night and let them know that no tickets had sold, either when the football draw was announced or in the weeks up to the event. they let them go into the club hours before the event and set up their stage show and get the evening prepared. not once did any of them go into the room and let them know that no one was coming. Maggie and the guys from Lay Down Your Arms could have used the night to appear at a different venue where hundreds of pounds could have been raised for Help for Heroes.
Yes our boys and girls do choose to join the Forces instead of being farmers. doctors, factory workers etc, and thanks to all the brave men and women that went before them, and fought for our freedom, they have the choice to do this and it is thanks to those brave souls both past and present that we, as ordinary workers have to right to live our lives as we choose, including calling ourselves pacifist worker. Our members of the Armed Forces are extra special people and deserve all the support , no matter how small that support may be, that anyone can give them no matter where in the world they are serving. My son and cousin are both serving Soldiers and no-one could be prouder than me to say that they have taken their Oath of Allegance and sworn to serve their Queen and Country.

Comment: Although I moved into the Derbyshire/Nottinghamshire coalfields 48 years ago I love to read your website daily. One of the main events of the year when I worked at Deaf Hill Colliery from 1952 - 62 was Durham Big Meeting, which I went to every year from 1948 when living in 77,Station Lane and 2, Prospect Terrace. The last time I marched through the village with the Trimdon Brass Band was 2 years ago with my old friend Jake Elliott ex Drum Major 2nd battall, Scotts Guards leading the parade. I hope everyone from the council houses, Deaf Hill, Trimdon Station, the Foundry and the Colliery have a wonderful time on parade on Wednsday and Saturday, sorry I won't be able to attend as I will be on holiday in Torquay. Comment: Trying spending a week in the depths of Dr Congo or Sudan and see what people living in Trimdon have to complain about. Not much to be honest. You get teenagers hanging around everywhere as they have nowhere to go or nothing to do. Yes a large group can be intimidating, however I’ve not heard of elderly people being attacked or abused as they shop. The odd minority cause arrestable trouble. I for one will be glad to get back to lovely Trimdon after living in a place where they really have nothing and have plenty to complain about.

Comment: I would just like to say that I am totally ashamed to call Trimdon Village my former home. I attended a charity night tonight (Friday 18th June) at Trimdon Labour Club that was organised in aid of the Help for Heroes charity and 6 people turned up. The artist had more people there than the people who had paid for tickets. Supposedly the committee had "done all they could to advertise this event" but did not have the good manners to contact the artist and advise that no tickets had been sold, this is ignorance and nothing more. If the people of Trimdon cannot support this worthwhile charity when boys and girls from their own village are serving in the Armed Forces. I will be very surprised if Trimdon Labour Club is open next year as not one of the people I spoke to seemed to care that people had travelled to put on a show at their club. They only seemed to be interested in chucking pints down their necks and sitting with their little cronies and trying to say that the artist was at fault for no-one turning up. This show fills clubs around the north-east of England in clubs where the entertainment team make the effort to let people know what they have planned for their clubs, but no, this would be too much to ask of Trimdon labour club wouldn’t it. I guess their target of 3 customers a night is enough for them.

Comment: On behalf of Trimdon Band I am writing to say how disappointed and disheartened we are to hear that Deaf Hill Banner Group have engaged the services of Dearham Band for Durham Miners Gala. Trimdon Band is always proud to represent the Trimdon and Deaf Hill Community and were looking forward to doing so once again this year.
Although Trimdon Band has a long standing arrangement with another Banner Group (which was made prior to the Deaf Hill Replica Banner being produced) for the past few years, we have endeavoured to work together to honour commitments to both Banner Groups. As the Band were not informed that the Deaf Hill Banner Group were seeking to engage a different Band we assumed that we would be working together once again this year.
We wish the Banner Group all the best for Gala Day.
The Band do however still intend (weather permitting!) to perform within the village on the Wednesday evening prior to the Gala. Further details available soon.

Comment: Just to say I personally can not see a problem with a traveller site as there are already two or three sites in the Trimdons and they've been ne bother to any one or thing. I mean look at Dawsons at SpineCop Trimdon Grange, they are no bother, the ones down Trimdon Colliery are ne bother, at the end of the day people have got to live somewhere and if it's their own land that's bought and paid for so, be it, it's better than folk sponging off the dole and get council house for nowt and making a mess of 'em and the streets. Comment: I was born and bred in Trimdon and loved the place. Having moved away 23 years ago I visit regularly to see my family and have yearned to move back many a time. This has diminished as time has gone by mainly due to the dreadful behaviour of the local thugs and yobs down Chuch Road. I have read the comments on this page and have to disagree with some of them, especially when they believe Trimdon was like this years ago. I never felt afraid walking to the shops at night but certainly wouldn't dream of venturing out after dark now when on one of my visits. I couldn't believe the mess that was left from the night before when going to the newsagents one morning and actually saw with my own eyes the yob culture with their drink and drugs. It makes me sad to see what has happened!! It's time this was sorted so Trimdon can become the lovely place I remember once again.

Comment: Well I regularly return home to the village where my parents live. It annoys me the kids hanging about and being abusive to anybody walking past. My gran and her friend stopped walking to the shops on summer evenings because of these kids, as they felt threatened and intimidated by them. I know it's a small minority and I agree with the use of extra patrols and use of asbos but some of it has to do with educating parents on manners and respect again. I know when in groups kids who are most likely to be nice kids can appear threatening, also selling alcohol to kids has to be addressed also.

Whether it is to keep the church open, keep the borders smart and presentable or to run the village hall. There are hundreds more, these are just a few. I really don’t think they, whilst taking a swig from a can of lager/cider (that’s another thing. People need to stop going into the shops and buying booze for them and shops need to stop knowingly selling it to them, even via an adult) anyway I really don’t think they’ll turn around, apologise and make an effort to change.
I’d be more likely to get told to, in no uncertain terms to eff off.
People are making their views known via other means for example here, the local police, councils, mp’s and still no difference is being made. If the cops have no courage to face them, then the everyday civilian is going to steer well clear.
As for having nothing to do, I really don’t find that to be an excuse. I dare say if they looked hard enough they’d find something (youth club, sports teams, music..etc)

Now we’ve got gangs of youths wrecking anything and everything, using foul language to whomever they please. People don’t feel safe when out and about in the evening and the police don’t give a toss.
Mind you why should the police care when it’s so clear that the parents of these adolescent idiots don’t give a toss either. As long as they get their benefits from the social and are all comfy cosy in time for Eastenders, nothing else matters. I think it's time parents paid for their lack of parental guidance and were made to bring their kids into line.

Comment: I would like to agree with all the comments made about Trimdon village. But who is to blame ? We have the MP for Sedgefield who lives in the village. We have a County Councillor that lives in the village. We had a PM that made a point of bringing the world's press to our village. All labour, that have done nothing to bring real prosperity to Trimdon Village. All these people must walk around this village and see exactly what we see and do nothing. So just remember that the election is not far away and all these people will be knocking on our doors wanting our votes, or will they think the Labour Party can take Trimdon Village people for granted so they probably will not bother.

Comment: Hi, I agree with the previous post regarding Trimdon Village going downhill, the gangs that gather around the streets especially the shops are shocking, I try to get all my jobs done during the day so I have no reason to go out on a night. They make you feel unsafe and nothing is getting done about it, the parents of these children should be ashamed. My child has yet to grow up but is being taught right from wrong. I remember when you could walk the streets and everyone was friendly and had great community spirit, now you only have to look at someone the wrong way and you get abuse and threats. Why do we pay taxes when this behaviour is not getting dealt with? I am in the process of looking at moving out of this village even though I was born and raised here.

Comment: I have only lived in Trimdon since 1998, but my God has it gone down the pan in that time. I thought the village was just superb. There were no gangs hanging about at the shops, all underage, drinking and smoking in full view without a care in the world, hardly any drugs and few vandals. So only £25,000 spent on improvements in Trimdon compared to £200,000 in Fishburn seems sensible to me, because the handful of teenagers who think they live on a film set in there "gangs" would only wreck whatever improvements were made. Only recently all the block paving from under one of the seats on the millennium green was ripped up and thrown into the school playground. What a waste of money that was. Isn't it time that we adults took this village back? Please report every little crime and every little incident. Police organise their patrols in the hotspots and without reporting ALL crime, Trimdon will be off the Police radar. Let's name and shame the idiots.

Comment: Can anyone please tell me why our village is going down the pan. When I walk around the village I look on in dismay, it looks so untidy and unloved . There are a few questions that I have.
1: When was the last time the stones were painted on the village green.
2: Why does the village hall constantly get vandalized but nothing seems to be done about it.
3: Why do the Church Road shops still look terrible even after so called improvements.
4: Why does nearby Fishburn get nine times more investment money than Trimdon Village. Looking at a recent leaflet from the Labour party, over £200,000 for Fishburn, £25,000 for Trimdon Village?
5: Is it not possible for the old part of the village to have some period street lighting, and more trees planted on the upper part of the green .Trimdon Village is a beautiful village but I think it is being let down .What do you think?

Last I knew about the bungalow, Eddie Grieves the butcher was living in it, may still be. I remember Miss Carter and her sister who lived in Tremeduna, before himself bought it.

Comment: While I do not want to turn this into a tit for tat slanging match I would just say that I have far more problems with unruly children than with dog mess. No dog has ever run me over on a pedal cycle, no dog has ever thrown things at my car as I drive past, no dog has ever hurled abuse at me as I walk in the street, no dog has ever overturned garden planters outside my house need I go on. Yes I would rather talk to people and discuss issues than hide behind curtains and take photographs but each to their own. As for common sense surely common sense would say that people would teach their children to respect people and property but that is not always the case either. I pick up after my dog and so do most other people if only most parents were as responsible.

Comment: Just to reply to the "other Trimdon resident" who thinks that all you have to do to stop the dog mess in Trimdon is to have a word with such ignorant people. You must think that I sit at my window watching and waiting for people to let their pets dirty on public footpaths and grassed areas without cleaning up after them. You are saying that common sense should be used in these situations, but surely to goodness these people can see that there are stickers on most lamp posts and on the areas I am commenting on there are three dog waste bins within a 150 metre stretch, to me, common sense would state that these would be used. Yet again I will state that why should I have to clean the mess off the kids shoes when these folk with all the common sense leave the mess there in the first place.

Comment: While I as a dog owner agree totally that I should be, and I am, responsible for cleaning up after my dog, I find it a sad state of affairs when Big Brother is watching and sending photos to dog wardens etc. Would you take my photo when, as happened on Saturday, I took my dog out and he had more poo's than anticipated and I ran out of poo bags, knowing I had to go out again I left the mess, went home (approx 2 mins walk away), dropped the dog off, picked up the car and on my way to the town stopped and picked up my dogs mess. This all took about ten mins. If that is all that upsets you on a day to day basis then you must have a wonderful life. So far I have had glass broken outside my home, almost run over by children on peddle cycles, a garden wall vandalised etc. but chose to address the issues with common sense and spoke to the people and parents of those involved, and hey presto, problem solved, minimal fuss. I did not feel the urge, nor did I have the time, to take photos of the events in action.

I have lived here for 15 years and disgusted that nothing has been done to tidy or clean this eyesore - after all, we still pay council tax. Comment: Congratulations to the first person to be caught on camera allowing his jack russel dog to dirty on the grassed area opposite Langdale Oval, without cleaning it up. This image will be passed on to the local council and I am sure he will enjoy the fixed penalty that he will receive. This occurred at 9.10am on Saturday morning. I did warn people that I would be doing this and I will continue to do so

Comment: I would just like to agree with Colin about the state of Trimdon Grange Recreation Area, not only this but most of Trimdon Colliery as well. I have recently been in touch with the council and for them to send wardens out who were shocked and what they saw, I believe is a disgrace. I have been asked to watch for people walking their dogs and to record names and times of these people not cleaning up after their pets. I believe this job is a lot better than cleaning the s**t off my sons shoes and bicycle. I have totally had enough and will report anyone I see

Comment: Just a message with my best wishes to everyone in Trimdon. I left Trimdon 42 years ago, and spent the next twenty years in CapeTown, returning to England in 1987, eventually settling down in York. Since then, I've only managed to contact Philip Fellows, who was, after all, my best man. My last memories of Trimdon was our house in Cleveland Avenue. I've had a ride through Trimdon since, on a couple of occasions, and think it is looking a heck of a lot better, particularly with the removal of all the pit-heaps.
