I went to Trimdon Village Parochial School (alas no more) and lived in Front Street. My maiden name was Beryl Sloan and I know there are still a few of my school friend who remember me. I was hoping that there perhaps some were on Facebook so I’m trying to get in touch this way. Keep up the good work. Best wishes from BerylI I

Comment: fantastic site, it was great to see some of the old pics of Trimdon Village, brought back some lovely memories. One of the paper cuttings (1963) commenting on the old run down farm opposite the church where I remember I got a cuff around the lugs from PC Connelly 's long leather gloves for playing in there. Looking back now I know it was dangerous - I was only about 5 or 6 years old then Regards Derek

Comment: Hi. to every one who knew me when I lived in the community spanning the Council houses’, Deaf Hill and The Colliery from the beginning of the 2nd world war to December 1962 before moving to Belper in Derbyshire to further my career in the mining industry in the Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire coalfields. I visit the Trimdon Website most days and was very proud to see the Trimdon Brass band parading on Wednesday prior to the miners gala and then at the 125 anniversary in Durham on the Saturday led by an old friend of mine, Jake Elliott ex Drum Major 2nd battalion Scotts Guards. It would be nice to have a reunion at the community centre or the Colliery Club for men who worked at Deaf Hill Colliery from the end of the 2nd world war until the closure in 1967 ish. My dad was well known for his commitment and involvement on the parish council in the community and as a N.U.M. official at the pit for many years. Congratulations to every one who was involved in the community for organising the special event.
Regards, George Mills

To strip off in front of the Easington banner is one thing but to get a rendition of the Full Monty whilst in full flow from the band is another. Keep up the good work Gik, you are an absolute star.

Comment: On Sunday I attended a local charity football match at Trimdon Grange recreation ground, and although the day was a great success, I could not help but notice the amount of dog muck that was left by irresponsible dog owners. There were a number of children present, including two of my own. Surely if you choose to own a dog then cleaning up after your pet should not be a chore.

Comment: Having just found this site and reading thru the back messages I came across 'CAROL from SUNDERLAND' who wrote in 2005 about a relative marrying Lucy Reed, Squire Reed's daughter. If Carol reads this could she contact me? I would like to know more about Lucy and I'm also trying to uncover Squire's whereabout prior to 1892 when he married Margaret Renwick. I know he was from Leeds originally but he seems to have eluded every census and birth record with the exception of 1901 when he was in Trimdon where he died in 1914 as the result of a mining accident, or not as the mine owners would have it while denying compensation to his wife and five children. I'll be glad to hear from anyone else who can shed light on Squire and the Owens' family of Cross Row-Thomas and his wife Ellen(nee Taylor). He was originally from Dysarth in N.Wales and had worked previously at Murton where his brother, Owen Owens, was killed. My grandmother, Lydia, was his daughter and married Squire's son George. This is a fascinating archive that has been created for Trimdon - it should be treasured.

Comment: Yes I totally agree with the person with no name, this is a good platform for parish council to comment on each and every meeting, what is all the hush hush, the people have a god given right to know what is going on in their villages and to know their local parish councillors, after all without the good folk of the villages there would not be parish councillors, so if other council can do it how about Trimdon parish council?

Comment: I can only assume that the previous message was aimed at my entry, thanking Trimdon Foundry Parish Council for making the minutes of their meetings open and accessible. I fail to see how my comments were in anyway insinuating??? I was merely suggesting that Trimdon Parish Council follow suit. I have chosen to post a message on here because I don’t know how to get in touch with my parish council or even who the councillors are. I think this website is an ideal place to keep people informed.
My suggestion was aimed at improving communication and certainly not to suggest something underhand was going on!!!! I fail to see why my choice to remain anonymous should make my point any less valid.
Tuesday, March 31st, 2009 Name: Julie Thompson Location: Trimdon Village
Comment: It really amazes me that people comment and leave really insinuating remarks to people or other bodies but will not leave their name, anyone can do that, surely people who have a viable point would leave their name, ? or are they just spouting off for another reason, you know who I mean??? come on put your name on like everyone else, we know who you are. even if you don't.

Comment: Just wondering how much it is to rent the village labour club for the night?? thinking about having a " the legion " reunion night on a Friday night. Just wondered how this would go down with the general folk of Trimdon. I know it had its problems before but we are older and wiser now and to be honest more sensible so it shouldnt be a problem. Hopefully the regulars from the origional legion will be in attendance i.e. Steven Acidonia, hopefully he will don his shades and puffer jacket, and my mate Steven Hall. lets av it!! rave on!! I've got a couple of mc's on, techno t ( hes just done me a tattoo) and dj emmy is lined up to rock it big time. Please get back to me thanks and peace to you all.

Comment: Its good to see that Trimdon Foundry Parish Council continue to keep us up to date by posting minutes of meetings and providing contact details for the Parish Councillors. At least we can see where money is being spent in the village and the issues they are working on. It’s a shame Trimdon Parish Council don’t follow this good example.

Comment: Further to the comments on the land to the rear of 20 Commercial Street. I return to the Colliery regularly and observe the changes made over the years. I'm not a fan of all that has been done but what has been apparent is the works are carried out in a workmanlike fashion and with due consideration for the local residents and the requirements of the local authority. It is a shame to see the way in which this project has been tackled from a practicle point of view, I pressume the people developing this are amateur if not in fact, certainly in their approach. By even the lowest of standards this should have been levelled and hoarded. I note the comment "the land was purchased as a building plot" surely it's not a building plot until planning permission has been awarded, it may well be refused or are there any friends in high places? As to whether or not the land is better now than in it's original state is subjective, depending on how much of it you can see from your bedroom or lounge window.
Come on developers tidy and hoard it you never know the locals may not oppose any planning applications, you may also give the planners some confidence in your ability and intentions because at the moment both look doubtful.

There is no truth in the rumour that we are closing, they are just that, RUMOURS, all the club has been trying to do is to cut down on weekly expenses which is what everyone is or should be doing in this present climate, so please get your facts right whoever is saying this. The Young Drifters are appearing on Sat 21st Feb and tickets are going fast, we also have a 70's nite on Sat 7th March featuring The Great Glam Mothers, fancy dress is optional, prizes to be won, c u there. The club would cater for all levels of reading and would involve members talking about books they have read and to share their experiences. I know this is a bit of a long shot but I'm currently thinking of how to try and raise funds for this club to be set up. My football predictors are doing really well at the moment but I'm now thinking they are a little boring so I'm looking for something new. If anyone has any ideas could you please drop me a line via e mail. Please dont contact me at home as the bairns will be asleep and our lass kicks off. Comment: Hi, just a quick message about what a GREAT facility you all have in Trimdon in the "Trimdon Station Community Centre", (THE WELFARE). I was given a look round by my sister Eileen and also Jim on Sunday, what a massive amount of work and effort has been put into this project and I must say you Trimdon people should be proud of having this great place on your doorsteps. If any Trimdon people have not seen the improvements made I reccomend you go and have a look for yourselves, am sure you will be impressed with it. Well done to all concerned!!!!!!!!!!!!

Comment: Hi, Many thanks for taking the time to let us know that you enjoyed the firework display. We do our best to make sure that posters etc are out in good time for everyone to see and come along and also try to advertise with local media, but as they say "will try harder"! Next year's event has already been agreed and will take place on Sunday 1st November, Recreation Area, rear of Nattress Terrace, perhaps at the earlier time of 6pm rather than 6.30.

Comment: I would like to say that I fully appreciate the firework display that the Parish Council organised this year. I really enjoyed it….even though I had to watch it from the window, as we weren’t aware it was being held. I know now that there had been notices put up in the Parish Council notices boards, however is this really enough? What about the local shops, schools etc. I know my family weren’t the only ones to miss out. I look forward to being there next year and hope to see it advertised more clearly, I’m sure lots more people will attend.

Comment: Just to answer Linda Wilkinson about the land at the rear of 20 Commercial St.. the land was purchased as a building plot and it was cleared of all the rubbish and buildings that very same week. Waiting for planning permission and other red tape takes time as you just cannot build without everything being passed, so we must apologise for any inconvenience, but actually I think that the land is much tidier than it was before. If you wish to contact myself or my husband, please feel free to contact us on 01429 881809. Thank you.

Comment: I would just like to reply to a Ms. Jodie Ridd or Tara Collins as she uses two names, who rented a property from my husband and myself and in the guest book (30th Jan 2008) she is stating that it was not habitable. I can assure you that the house was in excellent condition and the only repairs that had to be rectified were done deliberately by herself in order to get a cheaper council property. Thank you

Comment: On the subject of the Parish Council, I'd just like to point one more example of the good work that's being carried out, the fireworks display last year at the recreation ground was great, free and well attended.I believe the event is to happen again this year. This type of event takes a lot of preparation and a lot of money, so well done to the Clerk and Members for giving something back to the people. I think the Parish Council does a fair amount for the village, given that their budget can't be huge, there's only so much that can be done. Improvements take a long time to come to fruition and there is often a great deal of work going on in the background before people actually see results. Trimdon has it's problems, much the same as any other village in our area and yes, it would be really nice to see the area as well kept as the likes of Sedgefield, however, the appearance of areas is largely down to residents taking pride in their area and helping the likes of the Parish Councils keeping places looking nice. It would be so easy, and improvements would soon be seen, if everyone in Trimdon did their bit by taking pride in their own little area, even if it did mean picking up a leftover beer can in the street! Or better still, not dropping it in the first place. Well done to the Parish Council and thanks for the very beautiful children's park!

Comment: There is a Margaret Annie Calvert in the www.durhamrecordsonline.com born 1899. This is the best site for Durham born folks to find out about there relations. There is no charge for a search but, if you want to look at the results there is a small charge.....well worth it!!

I also believe that my mother, Margaret Annie Calvert, was born there too. Is there anybody out there who can confirm this for me. Thanks. Dennis Kitching

Comment: At last !! I think a lot of people will be happy and relieved that finally something has been done to clear up and continually keep on top of the upkeep in the cemetery, and the village . And I also think that the negativity in the guestbook regarding this matter comes from years of Deaf Hill and Trimdon Station being in the gutter and you can't blame people really for feeling negative about the state of the place over the years .Maybe Easington and the Parish Councils will get a bit of support from Trimdon people now that something is going to be done ..And maybe time for some of the younger generation to join Easington and the parish councils ... After all there should be no reason why Deaf Hill and Trimdon Station can't be on the same par as such as Sedgefield and Trimdon Village for a nice well kept village ...

Comment: I was very disappointed reading the guestbook this morning about how negative everyone is being. The cemetery has had its first "session" of intense maintenance last week and I visited with the Chairman Jim Grigg, to see how the work was going - a definite improvement. This will continue with one day per week being devoted to work in the cemetery and I hope that parishioners will be pleased with change in the overall appearance of the cemetery. The Parish Council does it's best to try to maintain and address all areas within it's control to everyone's satisfaction. Maybe this is a high goal to strive for but we do try. Anyone wishing to complain may do so in writing to me as the Clerk at 2 Delamere Gardens, Easington SR8 3PA. The complaint will then be brought to the attention of Members at our monthly meeting and considered fully and a fully reply made thereafter. Also our monthly meetings, the next one is tomorrow (Wednesday 10th September at 6.30pm) are open to the public and the Chairman gives ample opportunity for members of the public to "have their say". You are welcome to come along.

Comment: Message for George. Let people express what they want and read messages correctly. And as for letting the whole of Trimdon see, the whole of Trimdon could see when you were campaigning to save the church, did you actually bother to attend regular services hence supporting the up keep of the church? One believes that answer is NO!!!!

Comment: George I think you have my sister all wrong she is on about there is always money for the upkeep of the bowling green and its always been like that in Deaf Hill as long as I can remember. so she isn’t having a go at the cemetery she is on about always being money for the bowling green but not for the upkeep of the cemetery . and for your interest George most of our family are buried in the cemetery - just thought you’d like to know that !!!

Comment: Referring to George Martin ! If you read my message properly I was in fact saying that the state of the cemetery is upsetting . Further down the message book various people have commented on this and this website is free for people and people that lived in Trimdon to voice their opinions , I thought I'd take part .. (even if my opinion will be 'all over Trimdon Station') And if you looked further down the guestbook I have left my email address previously .. I was actually , if you took time to read properly, agreeing with other people who find the state of the cemetery that it is very upsetting , but Easington or parish councils maybe should give this matter first priority before the bowling green , a notice board and street furniture . And as for who will remember me when I'm gone !! I really don't think that has anything to do with community funds being used to shine up the outside of the village - it’s such as the cemetery , that need preference ... is all I was saying .... You obviously use the bowling green .. thanks for your view x

Comment: Referring to Julie Fox Your comments will be all over Trimdon Station, you say lets give the bowling green preference to our cemetery, who will remember you when you are gone, not the relatives that have families in our cemetery, nor anyone else in our village that are concerned about their families that are put to rest in the cemetery. Why do you not include your email address??

Comment: Hi Bill, I don't know you . but I lived in Trimdon all my life , up until about 13 yrs ago. I can believe the cemetery is in a state as EASINGTON COUNCIL and 'all who sail in her' have deep deep pockets. There are the funds there to cover the upkeep of the cemetery and such like .. But don't worry the funds are going to 'street furniture' which will no doubt be vandalised of a Friday night , a notice board ???? and planters .. which will be uprooted and replanted in peoples gardens. I feel sad for the state of the cemetery, but as long as the bowling green is sound... why should anyone bother with the state of a graveyard ??..... and other parts of the village. Yes they will mention a hang around area ?, and basketball hoop ? .... but recreational areas should be accounted for separately, being as all the new-build houses have by law to donate towards play areas and such like for the kid. What is this ?? . , Dead , Buried and Forgotten , as with the cemetery... why do people expect any different from Easington Council .. money grabbers .. Don't leave the grass to grow over council tax bills do they ??

Comment: Nothing has been done, the cemetery is still sadly a disgrace. I was a bit upset about this subject when leaving my last message in the guestbook ( as you may have noticed ) However after taking stock, I intend to find out if there is a process to complain about poor service/Management from a council. I have been to photograph the sad state of affairs, last Sunday morning I think the people I need to contact are ombudsmen? - not too sure. I will have to look into this. I would appreciate being informed of the official complaints procedure. please find my e mail address attached

Yes, Marion I am Pearls brother, I am afraid she lost a long brave battle against cancer. She lived in the USA, I shared as much time as i could with her during her last year. As you can imagine it was a tough time. Pearls last wish was to be flown from California and be laid to rest next to her Mam & Dad in Deaf Hill Cemetery.
Many moons ago I can remember going to your house with our Pearl, I remember I sat at a table next to a fire at a back window overlooking a back garden it was one night after school & that’s about it.!!!! I really do remember your name very well. ...
