I used to share my thoughts with a few thousand people through the news paper letters page. This is much more effective, you can share yourthoughts with the world. The more we share the more we learn, hopefully!

Congratulations on a great site! I recently visited Trimdon to try to find the house in which my mother was born in 1914. I was only there for a day, but everyone was so kind and helpful (as Geordies are) that I just wanted to say thanks, especially to Peggy? (I think that was her name) who works at the local newsagents/store. She found an old timer who was born in the same year as my mam and he gave directions to a place alongside the old Trimdon Grange pit (which now of course is just a field). My mam's name is Violet Eleanor Harvey. She died in Southampton, UK in 1982. She was born on July 6, 1914 at 17 Overmans Row, Trimdon, the daughter of Fred Allen Newton (who was a banksman at the colliery) and Margaret Mary Ann Robinson Newton (late Ashcroft, formerly French). If anyone has any further info on my mam's family or the exact location of Overmans Row/or maps/photos showing it, I would be very grateful.

I work for Wingate, Station Town & Hutton Henry Partnership and i think every village should have a 'Trimdon Times' website. I am really impressed and would love to learn more about how this was acheived Well done, fantastic local information site.

Can you spare one hour a month to keep a lovely old Community Centre alive and kicking, if so, we would love to see you. Trimdon Grange Community Centre has a special place in people's hearts as the place where they went to school. T.G.C.C. Is now over 100yrs old and is kept alive by the user groups who use our facilities on a weekly basis, with thanks to all those concerned. We still hire two very large function rooms out for children's parties etc. at very reasonable rates see our web site for more details www.trimdongrangecommunitycentre.org

My great grandfather (a grocer) and family, including my 5 yr old grandfather, lived in Trimdon Colliery at the time of the 1881 census. Does anyone know if Hunter Scotts Street still exists ? His 1st wife Rebecca died in 1881 and is buried at Wingate Grange/Holy Trinity. Great grandfather George Scott remarried Sarah Jane Fishburn in 1884. They eventually settled in Houghton le Spring sometime after 1891.
