Comment: I remember the vulcan bomber crash at Wingate. Was standing at upstairs window when crashed. Don’t know how old I was though, .think it was junior school.
Moved to Sunderland in 1980 to start training as a nurse. Still there. I think Noel Watley was in same class at infant school.(Deaf Hill)Would love to hear from old school friends.

Comment: It may have been you Barbara. I've had a look but unfortunately it's not too clear. (Have placed a posting on the Forum page, 'Remember When', but although there has been 55 views there has been no reply.) Yours is the first on this site with regard to Trimdon Happy Wanderers and I would have thought that more would have remembered and replied. It's a pity that a 'Trimdon Happy Wanderers 'reunion couldn't be organized, as it would be great to see everyone again.
Are you the one that posted on Jan 13th, asking if anyone could remember the Madrell family? If you are then I do, you and your Veronica. I was your friend back then, so many years ago!

Comment: There were two large planes crashed during WW2 in a field along the west road. From memory there was a US Flying Fortress on which the twelve crew members were killed and a Lancaster bomber where I recall there were eight survivors. They were trying to land at an airfield which is listed as Catley Hill was marked on WW1 maps as an emergency landing field, however the electricity board had built a high voltage transmission line across this land. The US plane sliced through this line and also demolished part of the Kirkpatrick's farmhouse, my recollection was that the crew were electrocuted. The Lancaster landed further west, just south of the first vee..
There was also another smaller plane ( I think it was a Mosquito) that caught fire over Trimdon Village, I was in the garden and saw the crew of two bail out, the unmanned plane dived over the Cleveland Ave. and at the last minute glided away and crashed in the old quarries about 200 yards away. The crew were picked up by the railway line by the limestone quarry.

I saw these crashes but remember that in total there were about 8 planes made some form of landing on this field including two French.
