Comment: Thank you Bill. Your generosity is greatly appreciated. My Grandmothers parents were William Henry Thornton and Elizabeth (Peat). My Dad told me William was presented with a medal from the Queen for football accomplishments. I'm not sure what his team achieved but I
would like to find out. He was born May 18th 1877. His son was Robert Thornton, died at age 6 and buried in the Trimdon cemetery. Robert slipped out in the cold to watch his father play football and caught pneumonia.
Elizabeth was the daughter of Robert Peat and Mary Richardson. Robert Peat was the son of William Peat and Elizabeth Thubron. The family moved to the US in 1912. My dad has a collection of death certificates and other family records.
Hopefully someday I will get a chance to visit Trimdon and learn more about my families heritage

Comment: Dave (Florida),,,,, I was born 1959 and can remember the Thornton family. A very well respected hard working family who we were connected to through marriage on my Mothers side. As I remember as a child it was a common name in the village and knew several, from this website you will get a flavour of the village and what is all about, If you would like to look into your gran’s history I am pretty sure I could help to point you in the right direction. Drop me an e mail if you would like. What else do you know about her, i.e. Brothers/Sisters or where she lived, dates and where she moved to. It's only a small village and shouldn't be very hard to trace.

Regards Bill

Comment Hi, My name is Dave. I just came across my grandmother's funeral announcement from 1998. Her name was Mary Jane Thornton. She was born Nov. 22,1906 - place of birth was listed as Trimdon Grange in County Durham. I did a Google search for Trimdon and ended up here in your guestbook. Everyone seems so polite, much like my grandmother was.
 She was a real LADY.
March 13, 1998 my grandmother appeared as an angel in my dream to tell me she loved me. The next morning my Dad called to tell me she had passed away that night. She will always be loved. So thank you Trimdon for one of your greatest exports.
