I absolutely love what you have done with the website for Trimdon! Are there any families out there that trace their lineage or allied lines back to anyone of the Maloney families that were living in the area between 1859-1880 or so?
My mother's family descends from the family of Patrick Maloney and his first wife Winifred McLaughlin. Originally from Ireland they were wed in Trimdon (or possibly Sedgefield as the wedding is in the R.C. registers there) in 1859 and spent the period 1859-1869 in the Trimdon/Trimdon Colliery area. Patrick was, as expected, a miner and he and Winifred had 6 children in Trimdon. In 1999 Patrick's grandson Regis Maloney shared with me a family story which claims that a mine recruiter from the U.S. named Rube Haggerty paid occasional visits to the Durham coal fields in the 1860s to try and attract miners to Pennsylvania. Patrick accepted and migrated to McKean County, PA in Sep 1869 with his brother John. His second wife, Catherine Murray (married to Patrick in March 1868 at St. Williams), migrated a few months later with the children arriving in Boston Harber in Dec 1869 aboard the SS Marathon out of Liverpool. Patrick was the son of Thomas Maloney - tenant farmer of County Mayo, Ireland. Patrick's sister Mary also lived in Trimdon and married Michael Glancy there in January 1858. Patrick's first wife died in 1867 but I've not located the cemetery in which she is interred. A recent visit to the cemeteries in Trimdon and Trimdon Colliery have me doubtful that I'll find an extant headstone (if ever one existed in the first place).
I have a family website on which I display this information at:

Cheers!

Edith and Peter , I held my nose while I read John Burton's autobiography. I have never met the man but from anecdotal reports I would agree he is pretty rude. Rest assured karma or natural justice will catch up with him and his boss Tony Blair for the crimes against the people of Britain and Iraq.
For the Crimes against Iraq , read the internationally respected jouranist John Pilger, on znet.com or antiwar.com

Hi Edith,Sorry to hear about your meeting with Tonys agent....you should complain to Mr Blair, and then use your vote to show your displeasure should his answer be unsatisfactory... he is no better than any of the rest of us 'ordinary' folk and not worthy of his name being mentioned.

I had the displeasure of meeting that John Burton (Tony's agent) the other day. What a rude and obnoxious man. Just before the election, he was charm itself and couldn't do enough for you. Now, it seems, he hasn't the time of day for most people.

It appears there are people out there who are sick of reading my postings, is it the content or just the bad grammar! If you are sick of seeing the same people, then make a thoughtful contribution, I welcome any input other than personal insults that miss the point .
